MODUS: FORGED FII ACCOUNTS & PHANTOM IPO ALLOCATION | ENFORCEMENT: SEBI / STATE CYBER

1. The Elite WhatsApp & Facebook Investment Funnel

Victims are targeted through sponsored social media ads promoting "Exclusive VIP Institutional Stock Trading Groups" led by fictitious foreign fund managers (impersonating BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, or leading domestic brokerages). Group members share glowing testimonials of 300% to 500% gains on private institutional IPO allotments.

2. The Sideloaded Rogue Trading App

Victims are directed to download custom APKs or install enterprise iOS profiles (e.g. FII-Pro-Institutional.apk). The app connects to a synthetic backend that mirrors real-time NSE/BSE stock tickers, but allows the scammer to artificially manipulate the victim's displayed wallet balance and execute fabricated "100% Guaranteed Allotments" in oversubscribed IPOs.

3. The Extraction Phase & "20% Regulatory Clearance Fee"

When the victim attempts to liquidate their fictitious ₹50 Lakh balance, the system halts the transaction. The syndicate demands an upfront payment of 20% to 30% in "Capital Gains Tax & SEBI Compliance Fees". Because the money is deposited into mule bank accounts rather than genuine SEBI-registered clearing corporations (NSCCL/ICCL), all deposited funds are lost permanently.

4. Verification Protocol for Indian Retail Investors

  1. Verify SEBI Registration Number: Cross-verify all brokers and research analysts on the official SEBI portal (sebi.gov.in).
  2. Only Use ASBA for IPOs: In India, legitimate IPO applications are made via ASBA (Application Supported by Blocked Amount) through your registered bank/demat account where funds are only blocked, not transferred to private accounts.
  3. Never Deposit Funds into Individual/Current Accounts: Legitimate brokerages never accept deposits into random current accounts or individual UPI IDs.
